     drive through

Restaurants with drive through facilities are became most common now. Most of the fast food restaurant has option of drive through.
57% of customers are using drive through option rather than walk in. For example, mac Donald's 65% of customers are using drive through.

what is drive through ?

A drive-through, or drive-thru, is a type of service provided by a business that allows customers to purchase products without leaving their cars. The format was pioneered in the United states in the 1930s by Jordan Martin, but has since spread to other countries.

how it works?

Orders are generally placed using a microphone and picked up in person at the window. A drive-through is different from a drive -in in several ways - the cars create a line and move in one direction in drive-through, and normally do not park, whereas drive-ins allow cars to park next to each other, the food is generally brought to the window by a server, called a carhop, and the customer can remain in the parked car to eat. However, during peak periods, to keep the queue down and avoid traffic-flow problems, drive-through occasionally switch to an "order at the window, then park in a designated space" model where the customer will receive their food from an attendant when it is ready to be served. This results in a perceived relationship between the two service models.

Drive-through has generally replaced drive-ins in popular culture

some benefits:

  • avoid big line up
  • no parking problem
  • time saving
  • faster
  • easy to manage children.
  • no delay in journey.etc

During quiet hours, we have strong evidence
suggesting the drive thru is faster.
We can also make the conclusion from our
observational study that drive through and
walking in times are not significantly

                          different during busy hours.

  3. I really like drive thru way to pick some foods, It's so easy to get some foods when we were busy to catch time or the cold weather coming. We can still sit in car, save our time. I think their have online order and pick up later serve in now. Such as starbucks, I can order and pay online. I feel the drive thru and order online serve will more and more popular in the future. 4. I think the addition of multiple lines would improve the drive through experience for customers. I don't think dine in culture would cease to exist because of how hard it is to change traditions. I would use drive-thrus when I'm in a hurry or while I'm on a trip.

  5. I feel like drive thru should be for beverages only because when people order food it holds up the line. I understand that they make more money by including food as well, but most people just prefer to buy a drink and go on with their day. However, if they have two lanes then I feel like that would be more convenient. It is very unlikely that this will happen because restaurants would need to own more land to do so. So I'm sticking to drive thrus just being for beverages because it will be much faster.

  7. Drive through is very convenient to everyone not just when its rush hour. As a customer I would suggest to improve the speed service but also focus more on ensuring that orders are prepared properly.

  8. Question #1
As a customer to other customers, my suggestion is make up your mind before you go or at least have some ideas what to order not to bother others and restaurant staffs. I understand people have different reasons to use drive thru. Since we can’t see each other what’s happening or why it taking so long, we should consider others more than eat in restaurants. As a customer to restaurants, it would be nice if they can make rules to order and put signs when customers order, such as don’t take changes a lot or something like to be fair for all customers.

  9. if the drive-thru restaurent have some good quality, I will visit there . becauese it may be able to become to get a chance with specific service than other drive-thru. existing drive-thre restaurent is little uncomfortable to order so if this point is improved, it lead one to sucess.

  10. in my opinion, the restaurants which running drive through service have to find proper location. of course this is good business for them due to increase profit. however, some restaurants select wrong place. for example, Tim Horton located next by my house, they are so close with road. so the lined cars are interrupt people who want to path that way. they must think making harmony with surrounding environment too.

  11. I believe dine in will not end as there are a lot of people enjoy sitting down in a restaurant with friends or family. I only use a drive through when I am in rush. I find food especially fries or fried chicken always get soggy when I arrive my destination. It makes the food less enjoyable, so I would rather join the line and enjoy a better meal as long as I have time.

  12. Personally, I'm not a fanatic of drive through, some time it take longer than going in, and you have to make your choice faster (which I don't like) and the communication could be hard in some establishment.

  13. For drive through I do not resist to use it, but if it is meal time in a drive through a diner so long, and a lot of people. If you want to wait a long time I prefer to go to the restaurant to sit down to eat a meal ordering, if the drive through to improve the speed and food quality, I think I would consider the drive through this way ordering, because this approach is quite convenient

  14. I would set up a drive-thru station in my restaurant simply because it fulfills the demand of customers who wants to grab and go as fast as possible, which is greatly needed since decades ago and will undoubtedly continue to be a major function of some fast food brands. However I personally do not think the culture of dine in will be greatly affected or even replaced by drive-thru, as not all restaurant are capable of providing such service since their food require time to prepare. Even when food is not considered, these two types of service offers very different experience. People will still seek out dine in experience with their family and friends or even by themselves when they are not in a hurry. Unless another wave of new technology hits and drastically speed up the cooking process and render processing time a past tense, drive-thru replacing dine-in will not be a concern for the majority of the food industry.

  16. Question 1
Expand a single line to double line and separate the line by purpose. For example, like Tim Hortons, one line for express, other line for regular order. It will be reduce a traffic jam or delay of order for the customer and increase the profit for the restaurant.

  17. This is easy and convenient for drivers to save their time, l love it very much and i think this is a good marketing for more people and store to explore. But i think the time for the food is also important, if your food need to wait more than 10 minutes, it is a little bit longer to wait outside, so there might be better way for this kind of things and there is another problem that if the line go too long, maybe they should extend their single line to double.
